The Columbus Blue Jackets may have overpaid for Matt Duchene, as they gambled on their future. I have no doubt Lou was working to acquire Duchene, but didn’t want to match Columbus. Reports show that the Islanders were mostly likely the runner-up for Duchene. This means they’ve offered a decent amount to Ottawa.
How does this help us now? Well it does, immensely. Mark Stone is still on the trade block. His is a high-scoring defensive forward who fits perfectly in Trotz’s system. Unfortunately, Stone is also a pending UFA. It is clear the Isles not only need power play help, but also 5-on-5 offensive help. Stone is a perfect match.
The price for Stone might also go down, as the Senators are nothing but satisfied by the return brought by Duchene.
When the Islanders play Tavares on Thursday, our team can look very different than it does today.
