Last preseason the Islanders scored 1st place. Wow. This year, they are captain-less, but have great management. This is a situation that nobody knows the outcome of. The start of preseason is this Sunday at the Barn. The game is against the Flyers.
Nobody can say they are happy with John Tavares’ departure. However, we need to be honest with ourselves. Even with John Tavares we only won a single playoffs series, I mean, we didn’t go anywhere. Is this Tavares’ fault? Not likely. This is most likely our pathetic management’s fault. Once we fired the atrocity we called a General Manger and got a Stanley-Cup winning coach, there was certain hope. But on July 1st, when Tavares left, all hope was gone.
Today was an amazing day. Barry Trotz, probably the best coach in hockey, has been named the Islanders head coach. He will automatically play an instrumental role in the quest for John Tavares’ loyalty.
I have significant faith in Lou Lamoriello and I hope he can hire Barry Trotz. Trotz has been spotted in the Newark airport, possibly for the Islanders.
The Isles are in a tough situation right now: their captain John Tavares will be a free agent soon if he doesn’t sign a contract.
There are many things General Manager Garth Snow needs to do this off season. This break is perhaps the most important off season in the Islander’s recent history. The big thing that should be constantly on Snow’s mind is re-signing John Tavares.
The Islanders suck, but don’t suck enough to get better. After the 2018 Draft Lottery, the Islanders will select 11th and 12th in the draft. The first round pick will go to the Sabres. Hopefully the Islanders select another Mat Barzal, who went 16th overall.
